Compared to other mountains in Kenya Mount Kenya is the highest with an altitude of 5,199m. It was formed as a result of the volcanic eruptions. When you are in Nairobi city you will drive 200km to the North of Nairobi to reach Mount Kenya region. Out of the three major peaks of Mount Kenya, Nelion is the is found at the highest altitude with a height of 5,199m followed by Nelion at 5,188m and lastly Lenana at 4,985m above the sea level. Don’t expect only rough side of the mountain as there are also smooth and gentle slopes as well. Out of all this Lenana is most climbed as it is the shortest and reaching it through trekking is as simple compared to other peaks. You find that most of the parts of this mountain is covered with snow and glaciers especially during the rainy season when the temperatures are low.

This highest mountain in Kenya can be accessed using three major routes and that is Naromoru route, Sirimon route, and Chogoria route. With Naromoru route being the fastest and the most popular route to point Lenana making it to be overcrowded by many climbers. People who use this route find it to be more gentle and smooth. While Chogoria route is one of the scenic and most interesting routes of all since it passes through tarns, cliffs, Georges valley and even the beautiful Lake Michaelson. Some people also prefer to use sirimon because it is dry most of the time.
We to do a lot of research and make many arrangements before we go for mountain climbing. For you to climb mountain you will be required to carry camera, water, water proof and warm layer. Besides, for your smooth movement you will be provided by a porter will carry the mountain gear and guide you in the process.
